Frodo, un hobbit, mosteneste un inel cu puteri extraordinare de la unchiul sau, Bilbo Baggins. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers [2002]
Frodo si Sam il iau pe Gollum prizonier si isi continua drumul catre Mordor in tentativa lor de a distruge Inelul. Fostii lor insotitori: Strider, Legolas, Gimli, Merry si Pippin isi gasesc aliati in Entsi, calaretii lui Rohan si stewarzii lui Gondor si incep un asalt asupra Isengard-ului. Intre timp, o umbra deasa se lasa asupra Pamantului de Mijloc, pe masura ce armata Lordului Intunericului se indreapta catre Gondor. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King [2003]
Partea a-3-a a trilogiei ne arata ca, pe masura ce Sam si Frodo se apropie de “Muntele Blestemat”, cu scopul de a distruge Inelul, Gandalf si Pippin incearca sa apere Gondorul. Merry ramane cu Eowyn si cu ceilalti luptatori ai regatului Rohan, iar Aragorn, Legolas si Gimli cauta ajutorul celor care traiesc in Muntii Blestemati.
